Sunday's Best Women’s NCAA Tournament Picks & Predictions: Second Round
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Maryland Terrapins (+124) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (-2.5) | O/U 136.5 (-110/-110)
The last time these two programs faced off in the NCAA Tournament was 20 years ago, back in 2006, when Brenda Frese’s Terps defeated the Tar Heels in the Final Four on their way to a National Championship. The names and faces on the home side of the court in historic Carmichael Arena have changed but Frese remains the constant.
Both of these teams dispatched of their first round opponents easily. Maryland thumped Murray State, 99-67, covering the 31.5 spread and UNC defeated Western Illinois, 82-51. This should be a highly contested game as evidenced by there 2.5-point spread, but when the dust settles I expect Brenda Frese to be on the way to her 13th career Sweet 16.
Pick: Maryland Terrapins Moneyline (+124)
Texas Tech Red Raiders (+3000) vs. LSU Tigers (-24.5) | O/U 145.5 (-110/-110)
LSU and Kim Mulkey take on all comers and thump everyone who isn’t Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. They easily (and that’s being generous) handled Jacksonville, 116-58, passing the century mark in scoring for the 15th time this season. MiKaylah Williams led the way for LSU with 58 points in the victory.
Led by MiLaysia Fulwiley (14.6), as well as aforementioned Williams (13.7 points), and of course, Flau’joe Johnson (14.0), the Tigers boast eight players who average at least 8.5 points, meaning no matter the lineup on the floor, Mike Mulkey has the firepower to keep piling on points.
Look for the Tigers to reach the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five years as they blow the roof off of Pete Maravich Assembly Center one last time this season.
Pick: LSU Tigers -24.5 (-110)
