NFL Player Props, Picks & Predictions: Colts vs. Vikings

Here are some of Andrew Erickson’s predictions for Colts vs. Vikings. And check out all of his top picks for NFL Week 7.

Colts vs. Vikings Preview & Picks

I love the Vikings here, and I’m more than comfortable laying up to a touchdown. The Colts’ defense is bad (bottom-six in points per game and total yards per play allowed), Daniel Jones has not looked good coming off the Achilles injury, and cornerback Sauce Gardner’s calf injury has already ruled him out for Sunday. Tight end Tyler Warren also won’t play for the second straight game.

The Colts have even fewer answers against a well-rested Minnesota team fresh off their bye week (with a clean bill of health).

The favorites in games so far with a seven-day rest advantage are 9-0-1 ATS.

The Indianapolis organization relieved general manager Chris Ballard of his duties, and the team just lost to a previously winless Titans team on self-inflicted penalties, special-teams miscues and boneheaded turnovers.

I gave out Vikings -5 on the Week 7 Best Bets show, but still feel fine with the number below seven points.

I’d lean toward the Under too. Minnesota’s games have stayed low, and this total is already in the low 40s (but totals in this range so far this season are 8-17/68% toward the Under).

I also like a prop in this game. Five-star NFL props are up +27.7 units this season (through Week 6).

The under on Kyler Murray’s pass attempts is at 30.5. He’s gone over just once in his three starts this season. And given his ability to scramble, that cuts down on passes for the Vikings quarterback. Only one quarterback has attempted more than 31 passes versus the Colts (the Chiefs game went into overtime). Given how bad the Colts have been against the run (32nd in expected points added/rush faced), I could see Minnesota leaning on a rushing attack with Jordan Mason back in the fold. I just don’t see the Colts’ offense pushing Minnesota in any capacity.

    Props & Picks

    • Vikings -6.5
    • Kyler Murray UNDER 30.5 Pass Attempts

Best NFL Same Game Parlay for Colts vs. Vikings

Here is our top NFL same game parlay for Colts vs. Vikings. And you can view all of our Week 7 NFL same game parlays.

          • Leg 1: Jonathan Taylor Under 71.5 Rushing Yards (-111)
          • Leg 2: Keenan Allen 5+ Receptions (-170)
          • Leg 3: Kyler Murray 240+ Passing + Rushing Yards (-120)

Minnesota boasts one of the NFL's top run defenses this year. The Vikings allow the fourth-fewest rushing yards per game to running backs. The defense has also allowed only one opposing RB to gain 50+ yards in any game thus far. It sets up as a tough matchup for Jonathan Taylor, so we'll fade his rushing yards prop.

The Colts' star tailback is having a solid season, averaging 82 rushing yards per game. However, Taylor will likely be held in check by this stalwart Minnesota run-stopping unit. His 71.5 rushing line seems low, but it also suggests yards could be tough to come by this week.

Indianapolis will likely throw it more if the run game is limited. That leads us to Keenan Allen, who has become a trusted receiver for Daniel Jones. The veteran wideout has 11, nine, and nine targets in his last three games. He also has 5+ catches in four of five games this season. Let's count on him hitting that mark again this week.

Shifting to the Vikings' offense, expect Kyler Murray to put up yards as both a runner and passer. The Colts are allowing the third-most passing yards per game this year. They're also allowing the ninth-most rushing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. It's a favorable matchup for Murray, who is coming off two straight productive games.

Minnesota's quarterback posted 263 total yards against Miami, then 280 total yards against New Orleans. He can eclipse 240 combined rushing and passing yards this week. Murray did it in 14 of 22 games for Arizona in the past two seasons, and he's now cleared it twice in a row. It was a good sign to see him run for 51 yards in the Vikings' last game, too.

What is an NFL player prop bet?

An NFL player prop bet is a type of wager where you’re betting on the performance of a specific player in a game rather than the overall outcome. For example, you might place a bet on how many passing yards a quarterback will throw for, or how many touchdowns a running back will score. It’s a fun way to get more invested in the action, especially if you’re confident in how a particular player will perform, regardless of who wins or loses the game. It’s like focusing on one slice of the pie instead of the whole thing.
