Episode Summary:
Host Matt Perrault kicks off a Tuesday episode addressing the elephant in the room: his brutally cold month of March. Down significantly for the year, he candidly addresses the run, emphasizing the importance of bankroll management, playing defensively, and advising listeners to feel free to fade his picks until the tide turns.
To help “stem the tide,” Matt pivots to an all-hockey podcast, limiting his exposure to just one game bet and two NHL Stanley Cup futures. He briefly notes that the College Basketball Show will return the following day to preview the Final Four. He also issues a final reminder to enter the Penny Hardaway autographed jersey giveaway before the end of the month.
NHL Stanley Cup Futures:
-
Eastern Conference – Buffalo Sabres: Matt identifies a massive longshot in the East. While acknowledging their obvious goaltending question marks and lack of playoff experience, he highlights the Sabres’ massive accumulation of points (98) and incredible young talent. Feeling that the Eastern Conference lacks a truly terrifying favorite outside of maybe Carolina (who Matt historically fades in the playoffs) or an aging Tampa Bay roster, he sees immense value in the Sabres making a Cinderella run. He takes a position on a Stanley Cup Future to potentially hedge later.
-
Western Conference – Dallas Stars: Moving to the West, Matt acknowledges Colorado as the clear favorite but points to Dallas as the definitive second-best team. Praising their elite goaltending (Jake Oettinger), depth across four lines, strong power play, and deep playoff experience, he believes the Stars are a legitimate Cup contender. He finds their current double-digit odds far too valuable to pass up and takes a position on a Stanley Cup Future.
NHL Game Pick:
-
Stars at Bruins: For his lone daily play, Matt looks at the matchup in Boston. He highlights the motivational mismatch: Dallas has already secured 100 points, clinched a playoff spot, and has little upward mobility, while Boston is desperately fighting for wild-card positioning to catch Montreal. Noting Dallas’s recent sluggish form (losing four of five) and Boston’s strong home record and recent winning streak, he gladly backs the home underdog. He takes a position on the Moneyline.
