Athletics vs. Minnesota Twins
Pitching won the other two games in this series, but don't count on it today. Jeffrey Springs (Athletics) is 3-9 with a 5.96 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He seldom lasts more than five innings, so when he turns it over to the bullpen, well - not much to like there either (5.51 ERA; highest in baseball). As for the Twins, Connor Prielipp is coming off the injured list (IL) to start today.
Before getting hurt, Prielipp had gone 2-5 in 13 starts with a 5.00 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Bet the over today against two suspect pitchers, right? Not so fast. In most cases, yes, but neither team has been hitting well.
The A's hit .261 over the last week but only generated 19 runs. Minnesota has hit only .206 but scored 22 runs. Lackluster pitching does not necessarily make lackluster hitters. If the total was lower, I'd consider the over, but the best bet for this game is the under.

Los Angeles Angels vs. San Francisco Giants
The Giants will be going for the sweep after winning Friday (7-6) and yesterday (9-2). But they have only hit .209 over the last week, so the game is far from a lock. The Angels have Jose Soriano taking the mound today. He has gone 5-4 on the road in 11 starts with a 3.11 ERA and a .220 opponents’ batting average.
The Giants’ lineup has hit only .209 over the last week, so I'd temper my expectations for them today. At the same time, San Francisco has a solid young pitcher making his third start in Carson Whisenhunt (2-0, 3.38 ERA, .158 opponents’ batting average at home).
Momentum can go a long way for a team like the Giants, which is probably why the Giants will get the win and finish the sweep, but I think it is more likely that two struggling lineups have quiet days against solid pitching in what will be a low-scoring game.
Neither of the previous games in this series finished under 8.5 runs. But with this matchup and these lineups, this game will be the outlier. The over is 23-23-3 for the Giants at home this season. It is 29-34 for the Angels following a loss and 4-5 when they are the betting favorite on the road.
