Tuesday's Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
Last night, Zack Wheeler struck out eight in six innings. The bad news for the Diamondbacks is that they face another solid strikeout pitcher in Game 2.
Nola struck out nine Braves in his last postseason start. In that game, he pitched 5 2/3 innings. It was his fourth consecutive outing in which he pitched that deep into the game. He has struck out at least eight in three of his last four starts dating back to the regular season.
In his one start against the Diamondbacks this season, Nola struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings. The Phillies have a serious home-field advantage thanks to their fans, and their pitchers have been feeding off that all postseason. We'd take this number up to 6.5.
Bryce Harper Over 7.5 Hitter Fantasy Score
Harper is red-hot right now. Last night, he was 2-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs. He also walked once. It was one of his most productive games of the postseason. That’s saying a lot since he has been producing in just about every game.
Tonight, Harper faces Merrill Kelly. While Harper’s career numbers against Kelly aren't impressive, we're going with the hot bat. Harper has hit safely in all but one postseason game and has multiple hits in three of the Phillies' seven. He's also scored nine runs, walked eight times, has driven in seven, and has four home runs. Kelly isn't a streak-breaker for Harper who will continue his excellent hitting tonight.
We're all over the Phillies for this game, but this is a prop that is simply too low to pass up. Kelly has pitched at least five innings in 30 consecutive starts. Even when he gets shelled by opposing hitters, he manages to make it through five frames.
The Phillies are hitting .288 off Kelly in his career. Kelly has recorded 14 strikeouts in 59 at-bats while walking six. All these numbers are good enough for us to trust Kelly tonight. After all, when Gallen got in trouble early last night, he was left in the game until finishing five innings.
