Tuesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 118-104
Ranger Suarez isn't much of a strikeout pitcher, but this number is incredibly low. When Suarez pitched against the Diamondbacks earlier in this series, he struck out seven in 5.1 innings. It was the ninth time in 10 games that he struck out at least four batters.
There seems to be concern that Suarez will struggle against a team that struck out just four times against Aaron Nola last night. After all, Nola had struck out seven Diamondbacks in his first start. But this number is so low that we don't see how it goes under. It's Game 7, so if Suarez gets shelled in the first inning, he'll get pulled, but nothing in his recent appearances suggests that.
The last time Brandon Pfaadt pitched a game, he allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings. Though there is limited history, the Phillies are batting just .111 against Pfaadt, and they have just one extra-base hit.
These are good indicators that Pfaadt should be able to go at least 4.0 innings, as he has done in six of his last seven starts. There is always the chance that this strong Phillies' lineup will have better success against Pfaadt now that they've had a chance to learn his tendencies. Still, with this number at 11.5, there's not a lot being asked of Pfaadt against a team he dominated last week.
The only Phillies to record hits in the last game started by Pfaadt were Trea Turner, Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh. Bohm's hit came after Pfaadt was pulled from the game, but getting a hit in a game where the whole offense was down just shows Bohm's consistency. He's hit safely in five of his last six games and would have hit this prop in three of those six contests.
However, we like this prop even more because five of his six hits this series have come against Diamondbacks' relievers. Pfaadt is unlikely to go more than five innings, which means Bohm will have at least two chances to hit this prop while facing pitchers he is successful against.
