Friday’s Best PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 0-0
With Max Scherzer on the mound, the Mets were able to defeat the Marlins and reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara on Opening Day. As a whole, the four pitchers used by the Mets struck out 12 Marlins, with six of those coming from their starter Scherzer.
Peterson will be on the mound tonight, and while this number may look too high, he owned the Marlins last season. In 28 appearances last season, he struck out 126 batters. That's an average of 4.5 per game. Against the Marlins, he struck out at least seven batters in three of his four appearances. In one of those games, he only pitched 3.2 innings. This is a strikeout-prone lineup, and Peterson has had their number.
Bregman was a very disappointing 0-4 on Opening Day, but he should have much more success on Friday. He will be going up against Lance Lynn, who he is 6-15 against in his career. Of those six hits, four went for extra bases, and two of those were home runs. He has four RBIs, and he has also walked four times.
In all, his on-base percentage against Lynn is .526. If he is able to get on, even if by a walk, then he should be able to score for an Astros offense that looked lost in game one. Do not be surprised if Bregman more than doubles this number tonight.
If we're going to fade Bregman's Opening Day performance, we have to do the same for Rodriguez. Rodriguez was 0-4 in the Mariners' 3-0 win over the Guardians on Thursday. But today, he has a very juicy matchup ahead of him.
Last year, Rodriguez had an on-base percentage of .345, and he blasted 28 home runs. He will be up against Hunter Gaddis, who started just two games for the Guardians last season. He lost both outings, and he finished the year with an 18.41 ERA. He allowed 15 hits, 15 runs, and seven home runs in just 7.1 innings.
