This Season: 15-11
Freddie Freeman has been held hitless in his last two games. Yet, he still remains one of the better hitters in baseball and is batting .295 on the year.
He gets a good matchup with Chicago Cubs' starter Drew Smyly tonight. Freeman is 4-10 all-time against Smyly, and three of his four hits have been doubles. This is a good spot for Freeman to break out of his slump and get his average back above .300.
Shohei Ohtani only pitched 2.0 innings against the Boston Red Sox in his lost start because of a prolonged weather delay. That means he will be extra fresh tonight against the Kansas City Royals, who have the 10th-most strikeouts in the league.
Before Monday, Ohtani had pitched at least six innings in all three of his starts. Barring some sort of weather issue again, Ohtani will pitch at least six tonight and should have no problem wracking up Ks against this team.
This is a risky play for a few reasons. First, Matt Carpenter has never gotten a hit off of Arizona Diamondbacks' starter Zac Gallen. He is 0-6 lifetime, but he has only struck out once. Second, Carpenter is batting just .167 this season.
Carpenter picked up a hit in last night's game after going five games without one. He has only recorded hits in back-to-back games once this season. And yet, we like him to pick up his first career hit off Gallen tonight. Last night, he was used as a pinch hitter. But with a start tonight, he will have enough at-bats to change his narrative.
