Friday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 26-24-1
Tyler Glasnow More Than 6 strikeouts
Tyler Glasnow has recorded 63 strikeouts in just eight games. In his last outing, he struck out 10 Atlanta Braves. He's now struck out at least nine in four of his last five games. When he faced the Padres in the first series of the season, he struck out only three, but he looks like a completely different pitcher now.
He's also pitched at least 6.0 innings in all but two of his starts this season. The Dodgers have been more willing to let him get up around 100 pitches after he threw only 77 against the Padres in March. And while Glasnow only has nine strikeouts against the Padres’ lineup in 34 at-bats, he's also holding them to a .118 batting average. Expect him to go between 6.0 and 7.0 innings tonight and continue to put up great strikeout numbers.
Jared Jones Less Than 7.5 strikeouts
In his last start, Jared Jones struck out 10 and allowed one hit over 7.0 innings. It was his best start of the season. It also marked the first time he reached 7.0 innings this season. Jones has struck out at least seven batters in all but one of his starts. And though tonight's matchup is solid, we favor his less than.
The Cubs have the eighth-most strikeouts in the league. No one in the lineup has ever faced Jones. This could give Jones a huge advantage. However, while Jones has consistently pitched 5.0 or more innings in every game, he has gotten into trouble against teams that can score. The Cubs rank 12th in the league in total runs. If they chase Jones by the sixth inning, it's a near certainty he will miss this number.
Adolis Garcia Less Than 1.5 total bases
Adolis Garcia is batting just .194 in May, but he does have a hit in seven of his nine games. He's still batting .268 this season, but seeing this line at 1.5 is high, especially when you consider only one of his seven hits this month went for extra bases.
The altitude of Colorado can bring any hitter's bat to life, but the under is the right play tonight. While Rockies starter Austin Gomber gives up a lot of hits, he's never given one up to Garcia. Garcia will need to get at least two hits, something he hasn't done since April 21st, or record an extra-base hit, something he's done just five times in that same span, to hit the more than. In a bad matchup, back the less than.
