Thursday's Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
PrizePicks record this season: 22-25
Mike Trout Over 7.5 Fantasy Score
Trout has had an uncharacteristically rough May. He is batting just .219, and has only one home run, with that home run representing his only extra-base hit of the month. We're talking about an eight-game stretch that has seen almost no production from him. On top of that, he has seven strikeouts in his last four games.
However, we like him to break out of the funk today against the Cleveland Guardians and Logan Allen. Trout has never faced Allen, and Allen has been solid this season so far, but he has faced three of the weaker lineups in the MLB. With this number set at just 7.5, PrizePicks has finally lowered their standards a bit for Trout after his three-strikeout performance, which makes this a good spot to take him.
Yandy Diaz Over 6.0 Fantasy Score
Diaz is going against Gerrit Cole tonight, and he is one of the few players that has consistent success against the Yankees' ace. He has a lifetime .295 batting average against Cole, including 13 hits, two doubles, one home run, and five RBIs.
Diaz was just 1-for-4 against Cole earlier this season, but he did score and drive in a run. That would have been enough to go over the fantasy score of 6.0 that is currently set for him. It's hard to pick anyone to do well against Cole, but considering Diaz has seen him 44 times and has had success, we like that to keep up tonight.
Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases
Acuna is batting .347 this season and he has two hits in each of his last two games. Half of his hits this month have gone for extra bases, which is a significant improvement from his April. Perhaps that means that the hot hitter is bound to have a lackluster game that sees him fail to hit his total bases over.
However, his numbers against Blue Jays' starter Chris Bassitt are good. He's batting .333, and while he doesn't have an extra-base hit against the pitcher yet, Acuna's hot bat could change that. Bassitt hasn't allowed many hits in recent starts, but this isn't about the whole Braves' lineup, this is just about their best hitter. Even if he struggles against Bassitt, Acuna has decent numbers against the Blue Jays' relievers as a whole.
