The A's are the worst team in baseball and it's not close. So it's not surprising to see their starting pitcher with a really low strikeout line for tonight's game against the Houston Astros. Waldichuk has struck out just one current Astros hitter in nine at-bats, so history certainly is not on his side.
However, Waldichuk has pitched at least 5.0 innings in all but one of his starts this season, and the A's tend to leave him in even when he starts giving up runs. He has struck out at least four batters in six of his eight starts this year, and he has struck out 18 in his last three. Waldichuk doesn't have much historical success against this Astros lineup, but this number is a full strikeout lower than it should be.
With a .282 batting average, Perez is the Royals' leading hitter up to this point in the season. Tonight, he will face Michael Kopech, and while he is batting just .231 against him in his lifetime against the White Sox pitcher, he has had some success.
Two of Perez's three hits off Kopech are home runs. After a really bad 1-13 series against the Padres, Perez needs a pitcher that can let him get his power hitting back on track. Prior to that series. Perez had multi-hit games in three straight. Though he may not get two hits against Kopech, he will get one, then he will just need to get his other base against a bullpen he has had success against in his career.
Wisdom is batting just .238 on the season, but he has hit safely in three of his last five games. While he will likely only get one or two cracks at Phillies starter Ranger Suarez tonight, Wisdom does have success against the pitcher.
Wisdom is 2-for-5 in his career against Suarez with two doubles. Considering Suarez only went 4.0 innings in his first start of the season, Wisdom may need to find success against relievers tonight. The good news for over bettors is that he has a .318 lifetime batting average against the Phillies’ current pitching staff.
