As we hit mid-June, the better teams in the league are starting to separate themselves from the pack, while the worst teams in the league are already looking toward 2024. All 30 teams are in action today, beginning with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs at 2:20 PM. Of the 15 games, we're most looking forward to seeing last year's NL Cy Young winner, one red-hot pitcher, and one red-hot hitter.

Alcantara won the Cy Young in 2022, but his numbers in 2023 leave a lot to be desired. He has struck out five or fewer batters in four of his last five games and has only struck out more than five in four starts this season.

This Season: 44-48
Alcantara won the Cy Young in 2022, but his numbers in 2023 leave a lot to be desired. He has struck out five or fewer batters in four of his last five games and has only struck out more than five in four starts this season.
Tonight, he will take on the Washington Nationals for the first time this season. As a team, they have the fewest strikeouts in the MLB. Surely, this means that Alcantara is going to struggle again, right? We don't think so. He has solid numbers in his career against the Nationals. The current players have a .129 batting average against him, and they have struck out 23 times in 93 at-bats. This number should likely be at 6.0, so take the over.
Gausman has been a strikeout machine this season. He has 117 in just 86.2 innings of work. He has struck out at least 11 in two of his last three games. And yet, in his last outing, against the worst team in the MLB when it comes to striking out, he only managed to strike out four.
Gausman gave up six earned runs against the Twins, which resulted in him pitching fewer than 5.0 innings for just the second time this season. Tonight, we expect him to pitch at least 5.0 innings against a team that is tied for the fourth most strikeouts in the league. His last start was disappointing, but ignore it, and take his over tonight.
Burger's bat came to life in the White Sox series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went 3-10 in the final two games of the series, with all three of his hits being home runs. Burger is still only batting .179 for the month of June, but we like him tonight against Bryan Woo and the Mariners.
Burger has never faced Woo, who has only made two starts. But Woo has allowed 11 hits in 6.2 innings. He has only given up one home run, and clearly, Burger is looking to hit for power right now. Perhaps this is a risky play because, as a power hitter, this could be an all-or-nothing game for Burger. But with how confident he has been at the plate, his over is the best total bases play of the day.
