Friday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 47-54
Albies and the Braves will face Weaver and the Reds tonight. Albies has great numbers against Weaver. The switch-hitting second baseman is 5-15 against the Cincy right-hander in his career with three doubles and one home run.
Weaver has given up a lot of hits of late. In his last start, he pitched just 5.0 innings, but he gave up 10 hits. For the season, he has pitched 57.0 innings and allowed 71 hits. Albies has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, and considering four of his five hits against Weaver are for extra bases, this is too good of a number to pass up.
Maeda hasn't made a start since April 26th, and while he could have a good outing against the Tigers tonight, all signs point to a short performance. The last time Maeda made a professional start, he went just three innings, gave up 11 hits, 10 earned runs, and struck out only two.
Of his four starts this season, he has only struck out more than three batters once, and that was in his season debut. Since then, he has combined for five strikeouts in three starts. Look for Maeda to be on a pitch count tonight, and look for the Tigers to make a lot of contact.
The Pirates are among the 10 best teams in the league when it comes to striking out. They have struck out just 617 times as a team this season, and based on Luzardo's recent numbers, this feels like a full strikeout too high.
Luzardo has struck out five and three in his last two starts. Prior to those three appearances, he had struck out eight in three of four games. However, aside from those three starts, he has struck out more than eight just once this season. Luzardo seems always to end around six or seven strikeouts, and without a great matchup tonight, we like his under.
