Friday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 55-65
Ryan has 131 strikeouts in 112.1 innings pitched this season. Yet, as it’s been the case many times this season, his strikeout total on PrizePicks is too high. Ryan has struck out more than seven batters in two of his last three games, but prior to that stretch, he struck out more than seven in just one of seven attempts.
When Ryan faced the White Sox earlier in the season, he threw 6.0 innings of one-hit ball. Yet, he still only struck out seven. If this number were 6.5, we'd probably stay away from it, but at 7.5, we will take the under.
Ohtani has never faced Pirates starter Johan Oviedo, but we don't see Oviedo being a problem for the probable 2023 AL MVP. Oviedo has allowed 103 hits in 107.1 innings, and he has a WHIP of 1.36.
Ohtani is pitching tonight, but that hasn't affected him much in previous games this season. Ohtani has hit safely in five of his last six games. The only reason he didn't record a hit in his last game is because the Yankees walked him four times. This is a hitter that looks unstoppable right now. Against a struggling pitcher, we're surprised this number isn't higher.
The Colorado Rockies have struck out the ninth-most times in the MLB this season. Yet, this number is way too high for a pitcher who has not had much strikeout success lately.
In his last four games, Garrett has struck out fewer than seven batters in each, and he has combined for just 16 strikeouts. He has struck out 106 batters in 97.0 innings this season, but those numbers have been built inconsistently. Garrett has a 13-strikeout performance, but he also has multiple three-or-fewer-strikeout performances. He could put up a big number against the Rockies, but with how he has been pitching, we like his under.
