Friday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 106-77-7
Freddy Peralta Less Than 4.5 Strikeouts
Freddy Peralta hasn't been himself of late. He's struck out four or fewer batters in five of his last six starts, despite striking out 179 batters in 158.1 innings this season. He hasn't pitched more than six innings in a start since the end of June.
The Diamondbacks have recorded the seventh-fewest strikeouts in the league this season. They also have one of the best batting averages, so they could chase Peralta early. Peralta has struck out 26 Diamondbacks batters in 97 attempts in his career. That ratio isn't very good. For him to hit the more than on this line he’d need to go at least six innings. That's been his ceiling of late, so it's simply safer to take the less than.
Logan Webb Less Than 3.5 Strikeouts
Logan Webb has pitched against the Padres three times this season. He struck out five batters in six innings in his first start of the year. Despite going at least six innings in each of his last two starts against the Padres, he's struck out just three batters in each appearance. The most recent performance came on Saturday, when Webb gave up 10 hits, striking out three batters in six innings.
The Padres are the best team in the league at avoiding strikeouts, and Webb doesn't throw many. He's struck out just 157 batters in 189.2 innings this season. Considering he has a seven-inning, three-strikeout performance against the Padres already this season, there's no reason to think he'll hit this number, even if he does pitch seven innings.
Brent Rooker More Than 0.5 Total Bases
Brent Rooker has very quietly had an excellent September. He's batting .383 thus far, hitting safely in 10 of his 11 games. Dating back to August, Rooker has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. Rooker is hitting so well right now that he has multiple hits in seven of his last 13 contests.
Tonight, Rooker faces Garrett Crochet and the White Sox. Crochet has allowed 115 hits in 134.0 innings. Rooker and Crochet have only faced each other once, with Crochet earning a strikeout. But that incredibly limited history doesn't worry us at all. Rooker is one of the hottest hitters in baseball. He'll either get a hit against Crochet or the bullpen.
