Megill is a solid pitcher, but this is a rough matchup for him to find punchouts. The Phillies are 26th in K% (19.2%) against right-handed pitching this season. Thirteen of the 16 right-handed starters to face them have stayed below this mark, including Yoshinobu Yamamoto in six innings. Megill’s out line is set at 15.5, and he has maxed out at 16 outs this season. It wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him leave the game following five innings in this one, making his chances for strikeouts even more difficult than they already are.
If it were any other team, I doubt I’d be on Buehler, but it’s the White Sox, and it’s only right to fade them. Chicago is 28th in wRC+ (69) against right-handed pitching on the season. Buehler’s teammate, Tanner Houck, was struggling mightily until he got a date with the South Siders. He fired six innings en route to a quality start, which also seems well within the cards for Buehler today.
Making just his second start of the year, Schmidt is not fully stretched out and fired 73 pitches five days back in his 2025 debut against the Royals. He only found 2 strikeouts in that game, and with questions surrounding his usage today, this looks like a fairly safe fade, especially with the opponent on hand. He faces the Guardians, who are 20th in K% (20.7%) against right-handed pitching this year. 11 of the 16 righties they have faced have stayed under this, including Paul Skenes (4 Ks) the other day.
