Monday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 32-36
Brandon Drury's batting average is just .243, and he is facing a starter tonight in Michael Kopech, who he has never faced before. So, why should we be trusting him to go over 0.5 bases? Despite his average, Drury has hit safely in far more games than he hasn't in May.
This month, he has hit safely in 16 of his 21 games. This comes after an April that saw him reach base safely in just 14 of 26 games. He has had a hot bat, even if he only successfully recorded a hit once every game. Kopech hasn't been bad, giving up 41 hits in 57.1 innings. However, with Drury coming off a hitless performance, we like him to get at least a single tonight.
Of every team in the MLB this season, the Minnesota Twins have struck out the most. They are one of just four teams with over 500 strikeouts, and they have already cleared that number by 33.
Tonight, the Twins will face a newcomer in J.P. France. France has made four starts. While he has only thrown more than five strikeouts in a game once this season, that performance came in his last appearance against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he struck out eight. He has pitched at least 5.0 innings in three of his four starts, and against this lineup, that should be enough time to get at least six strikeouts.
Nolan Gorman has never faced the Royals before, but he should be able to have similar success against their pitchers as other hitters have had this season. Though Gorman has hit safely in just one of his last three games, before the current stretch, he had a hit streak of 15 games.
Gorman has seen half of his hits this season go for extra bases. As a power hitter, he is prone to strikeouts. He already has 49 this season. But whenever we can get a hot bat against the Royals, we will take it. And with how Gorman hits for extra bases, we'd even take this over 1.5.
