In terms of keeping opposing players off the bases and the scoreboard, German has been wildly inconsistent for the Yankees this season, but when it comes to strikeouts, he has found his groove. He has struck out nine batters in three consecutive games and four of his last five.
In two starts against the Rayes this season, he only struck out a combined eight batters. However, those starts came during a time when German wasn't really striking out anyone. He has turned it on in recent starts, and even when he gives up a lot of runs, such as the six earned against the Mets, he still strikes out a lot of batters.
Shohei Ohtani Over 8.5 Hitter Fantasy Score
One thing that has been true over most of the month of July is that if Ohtani isn't hitting, it's because opposing teams are deciding to walk him. Rather than try to determine when he will have the chance to hit and when he will walk, we're going to support his hitter fantasy score instead of his total bases.
Every walk gets you two points, while every single gets you three. Each run and RBI counts as two points, and a double is worth five, while a home run is worth 10. Ohtani has reached base safely in 16 of his last 18 games. He also leads the league with 39 home runs. At this point, his fantasy score over should just be an automatic play every game. When he doesn't go over, he's close.
Corbin Burnes has struck out six or more batters in five consecutive games. That includes a 10-strikeout performance against the Phillies and a 13-strikeout performance against the Reds. Yet, Burnes is still averaging just over one strikeout per inning. He has pitched at least five innings in every game except one this season, so you may be thinking this is an easy over.
However, despite their record, the Washington Nationals are one of the best contact teams in the league. They are 29th in the league in strikeouts. In addition, Burnes doesn't have much of a history against this lineup. And when he does have history, it's okay but not great. This is a deceivingly tricky matchup for Burnes.
