Saturday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Predictions
Padres right-handed pitcher Stephen Kolek might normally not be a pitcher on the tip of your tongue when looking at PrizePicks player predictions most nights. However, he faces the brutally bad Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, so let’s look high on the punchouts.
Kolek scattered four hits and two walks in 5.1 scoreless innings in a victory at Pittsburgh last Sunday in his first start of the season. The righty will be facing a Rockies team that leads the Majors with 373 strikeouts across just 38 games, which averages to 9.82 strikeouts per outing.
Sometimes you just need a layup. On PrizePicks, if you’re not familiar, there are Demons and Goblin plays. Demons are, as described on the site, a little wild. They are harder to win, but pay more when they hit. Goblins are easier to win, but the payout isn’t as great. However, sometimes including them helps you when you’re going for a Power Play, where you have to hit all of your picks to win a bigger payday.
Judge is hitting .396 on the season, although he is just 2-for-14 across the past four games, so there is a little bit of risk. He is up against lefty JP Sears. While the sample size is small, Judge is 2-for-6 (.333) with a homer, three RBI and a 1.389 OPS in his career against the southpaw.
Another Goblin play is Garrett Crochet. He just eats a ton of innings, pitching 49 innings across just eight starts, as he ranks fifth in the Majors in innings, and first among the pitchers available on Saturday.
Crochet is up against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. He is 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA and .152 opponent batting average across 27.1 innings, striking out 29 batters in four road outings.
Freddie Freeman heads into this game on a 14-game hitting streak. He is scorching hot during the run. Freeman is hitting .372 (25-for-53) with four homers, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored with eight walks and a .532 on-base percentage (OBP), while slugging .811 during the span.
Freeman will be working against veteran righty Corbin Burnes. He is 3-for-11 (.273) with two RBI and four walks lifetime against the 30-year-old righty.
The first baseman has two or more hits in four of his past five games, while collecting at least two hits in eight of the past 12 outings. He has driven in at least two RBI in four of his past seven games, too.
J.P. Crawford hits the diamond at T-Mobile Park against the Toronto Blue Jays, looking to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. He is up against righty Bowden Francis, who rolls in with a 2-5 record, 5.66 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Teams are hitting .283 against him on the road in 15.2 innings in three starts.
The 30-year-old shortstop last failed to collect a hit April 18th, when he was 0-for-3 in Toronto, ironically enough. Yes, Francis was on the hill that day, turning in a quality start and a win. There is some risk here. Since that hitless day, though, Crawford has raised his average from .211 to .285, and he is a completely different hitter these days.
