Rarely do I ever touch hitter props, but this sort of line piques my interest for sure. Yes, Luis Robert has struck out a ton this year. He ranks in the bottom eighth percentile in strikeout rate amongst hitters this year.
With that said, it’s not like the starter he faces today is a strikeout machine by any means. Chad Patrick is a rookie starter who is in the 13th percentile in CSW% after all. Robert will get four, maybe five plate appearances max, so let’s bank on him putting the ball in play today.
The Diamondbacks ace hasn’t been very ace-like, but because of his title, he has the leash to get through six, even if he starts to struggle. Gallen hasn’t struggled much against this Mets roster, however.
They have a combined .292 xwOBA across 98 plate appearances against him. We just saw Gallen’s struggling teammate, Corbin Burnes, get through six innings against them, and five of the last seven right-handed starters to face the Mets have gone six frames.
Somehow, someway, Jose Berrios managed to keep the big bad Bronx Bombers in check last start, but I’m not buying it. He ranks in the bottom 33rd percentile in xERA, 28th in FIP, 32nd in walk rate, ninth in HR/FB% and 18th in SwStr% among starting pitchers this season.
The Red Sox have been on a tear at the dish as of late, too, ranking second in wRC+ (143) facing right-handed pitching over the past two weeks. The last nine right-handed starters to face them have allowed two or more runs, with six allowing at least three.
