Thursday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
Let’s dive into our top MLB PrizePicks player predictions for today’s slate of games.
PrizePicks Record This Season: 16-17
Edward Cabrera More Than 6.5 Strikeouts
The Rockies on the road is always a recipe for plenty of strikeouts. It doesn’t matter if they’re at home at this point, though, as they have the fourth-highest K% (27.4%) and fourth-worst wRC+ (81) against righties. Seven of the last 12 right-handed starters to face them have exceeded this mark. Edward Cabrera can be a little wild with his control, but he has serious strikeout potential when he is on. We saw it in his first outing of the year when he fanned 12 San Francisco batters in six innings of one-run ball. He followed that up with seven strikeouts against the Cubs, before struggling last start against the Nationals. Look for him to rebound here at home.
Kyle Harrison More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Boston has been swinging and missing a ton against left-handed pitching through the early part of the season, owning the highest K% (29.7%) versus southpaws. Enter lefty Kyle Harrison. The Giants’ former top pitching prospect is coming off his best outing of the season against Pittsburgh where he fired seven strikeouts across six scoreless innings. Admittedly he’s not known to strike out the most batters, but if Martin Perez and Alex Wood can find seven strikeouts against the Red Sox, so can Harrison. Five of the seven left-handers to face them have recorded seven or more strikeouts.
Carlos Rodon Less Than 5.5 Strikeouts (2.06x)
Taking on the Orioles is no easy task for any starter, and they particularly feast against southpaws. They have the third-best wRC+ (130) and are 14th in K% (22.1%) when facing left-handed pitching. Seven of the 11 left-handed starters to take them on have failed to accrue more than five punchouts. Carlos Rodon has only surpassed this line in two of his six starts this year and four out of 14 last season. He ranks in the bottom 11th percentile in called-strikes+whiffs (CSW%) amongst all starters this season, so take the less than here.
