Thursday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
MLB PrizePicks Record This Season: 35-30-1
Luis Severino Less Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Luis Severino jumped over to the other side of town in New York and put up adequate numbers, similar to last year. Also, similar to last season, is his less-than-stellar strikeout numbers. He ranks in the bottom 38th percentile in K% and 16th in CSW% amongst all starting pitchers. Severino is under this mark in eight of his 12 starts, which includes a season-low three strikeouts against the Marlins on May 18. He faces them again today. While their strikeout rate has increased over the past 30 days, his stuff doesn’t warrant this sort of line, so take the less than.
Lance Lynn More Than 5 Strikeouts
Watching Lance Lynn pitch is painful, so don’t bother. He struggles with his command but still finds five strikeouts regularly. The Cardinals veteran is over this in nine of his 13 starts this season and draws a nice matchup taking on Pittsburgh. They have the third worst K% (25.7%) over the last 30 days against righties. Seventeen of the last 25 righties to face them have found at least five strikeouts, so I’ll take my chances with the erratic Lynn.
Joe Ryan More Than 7.5 Strikeouts
After seeing what Michael King did to the A’s yesterday, it’s hard to want to see Joe Ryan do the same in this matchup. Oakland now has the highest K% (28.1%) and is t-24th in wRC+ (84) when facing righties over the past 30 days. Not including an opener or Bowden Francis’ shortened start, 18 of the past 20 right-handed starters to face them have found at least six strikeouts. That is not eight, but this also isn’t any ordinary starter. The man with two first names has serious strikeout potential and ranks in the 87th percentile in K% and 76th in CSW% this season. He should be able to overpower this lineup the way he did with Pittsburgh (eight strikeouts) and Kansas City (nine strikeouts) recently.
