The wildfires in Canada caused some hellish scenes across the northeast and the miserable air quality postponed a couple of games yesterday. At the time of this writing, the games in Washington, New York, and Philadelphia are still a bit up in the air. As always, the main focus will be on pitching props in this article for yours truly.

Thursday's Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
PrizePicks record: 30-17-2
Reid Detmers Over 4.5 Hits Allowed
Unfortunately, the outs angle for Detmers I wrote up on Twitter is not available at PrizePicks today. So, we pivot to a different way to fade the Angels’ hard-throwing Southpaw. For as hard as he throws, Detmers gives up even harder contact and ranks in the bottom 14% in average exit velocity. That has translated to ranking in the bottom 25% in xBA, and he has allowed five or more hits in seven of his ten starts.
Matching up against the Cubs tonight does him no favors, either. They are 9th in wRC+ (116) vs. lefties over the last 30 days. Over the course of the season, 15/19 lefty starters to face them have permitted five or more hits. Look for Detmers to join the club.
Justin Verlander Over 5.5 Ks
Verlander has struggled to find many strikeouts early on in his Mets career, but he appeared to turn the page last outing against the Blue Jays. They are one of the more difficult squads to punch out, yet he managed to strike out eight, largely in part to his slider that had a 44.1% CSW%. That pitch has been the main reason why we have not seen the Ks we are so used to seeing from JV. If he can locate it like the last start, he should go over this line against the Braves. I’m sure he took notes from Scherzer’s start last night when he fanned ten Atlanta batters.
Spencer Strider Over 6.5 Strikeouts
Of all the Discount Dogs available, this is my personal favorite, even though it’s the highest line to eclipse. Strider is a strikeout god and has exceeded this mark in all 12 of his starts this year. That includes an eight K outing against the Mets a little over a month ago. Their roster has a 30.4% K% and .280 xwOBA in 79 plate appearances against him. If Strider develops more confidence in his change-up (33.3% CSW%), books will have to set his strikeout line at 10.5. Take the discounted price on the man known as Quadzilla.
