Bichette is on an incredible run right now, and as long as the off day didn't cool him off, he should manage to get his first hit against Adrian Houser, and perhaps more, tonight. Bichette has hit safely in eight consecutive games, and he has had multiple hits in six of those eight. His batting average on May 20th was .313. Today it is .338.
Bichette has made contact in all of his at-bats against Houser, he just hasn't been able to reach base safely. Yet, despite strong performances in his last two starts, Houser struggled mightily in his first two. Which version of him will appear tonight? Whichever it is, we like the red-hot Bichette to get the better of him.
The month of May has not been as good for Cortes as the month of April was. This month, he has struck out more than five batters just once and thrown at least 6.0 innings in just two of his four starts.
But he has had success against the current Seattle Marines' lineup. He has struck out 12 batters in 34 at-bats and walked just four. The Mariners have the fourth-highest strikeout rate of any team in the MLB. Combined, they have struck out 518 times. Domingo German, the Yankees starter last night, struck out just four, but overall, the Yankees struck out nine Mariners.
McCormick belted a home run on Sunday for his first hit in six games. It was his first home run since April 9th. McCormick has become a regular starter, but his bat has not come to life since he was inserted into the lineup. He is batting just .215 on the year.
Tonight, he will face Joe Ryan, who is 7-1 with a 2.21 ERA. Ryan has a WHIP of 0.95, and he has thrown at least 6.0 innings in all but one of his starts. McCormick is 1-5 against Ryan in his career, but he also has two strikeouts. Against the Twins’ pitching staff, McCormick is 6-21 with just three extra-base hits. Since he got a hit last night, expect him to revert back to his struggling ways against a solid pitcher.
