Tuesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 43-46
Spencer Strider has been a strikeout machine this season; there is no denying that. He has thrown at least seven strikeouts in every single one of his appearances, including in his last start when he went just 4.0 innings. Yet, we cannot, in good conscience, take an over that doesn't hit unless he strikes out 10.
Strider has struck out 10 or more four times this season in 13 starts. He has finished with nine strikeouts five times. The current Tigers lineup has only faced Strider a combined eight times, and they have struck out in four of those at-bats. Strider will have an advantage tonight, but we still like the under.
Patrick Corbin doesn't strike out many batters, and the Astros linup doesn’t strike out very often. In 73.2 innings, Corbin has struck out just 46 batters. He has struck out four or more batters just five times in 13 starts.
The Astros are 22nd in the league with 540 strikeouts as a team. Though Corbin does have success against Astros hitters in his career, all of that success has been from past seasons. This season, Corbin really hasn't been a threat to strike anyone out, so take the under even at this low number.
In his career, Freddie Freeman is just 1-9 with four strikeouts and three walks against Lance Lynn. Yet, Lynn has been giving up a lot of hits this season, and Freeman is currently second in the MLB in batting average.
Freeman is on a six-game hitting streak and would have gone over this number in four of those six appearances. Lynn has given up eight hits in each of his last two starts, and he has not pitched more than 5.0 innings in either game. And though Freeman's numbers aren't great against Lynn, he is 11-37 against the rest of the White Sox pitching staff. So even if he struggles against Lynn, he will have opportunities in later innings to add hits.
