Monday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 46-52
In his last three starts, Eury Perez has thrown exactly one strikeout per inning. This has resulted in him striking out at least five in three consecutive games. Before his current stretch, he struck out just three in back-to-back games.
Tonight, Perez will need to go at least five innings to have any shot at this number, and realistically, he will probably have to go six against a Blue Jays' lineup that doesn't strike out much. As a team, they are 26th in the league in strikeouts. Perez is not enough of a strikeout pitcher to trust against a contact team. Look for him to struggle to strike out anyone tonight.
Joey Gallo has struggled all season long. For the year, he is batting just .192, and though he had a hit last night, he went 0-4 the night before with four strikeouts. He is just 4-22 this month, and nothing points to him getting out of this slump tonight.
He has only faced Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford once in his career. Crawford does give up about one hit per inning, so perhaps Gallo will have some opportunities tonight. Yet, with how he is swinging, there is really no reason to have faith in him. Plus, his lifetime batting average against the current Red Sox pitching staff is .182.
Last night, Lars Nootbaar played for the first time in three weeks. He flashed some leather, and he went 1-4 with a walk. Nootbaar has never faced Nationals' starter MacKenzie Gore, but Gore has been giving up about one hit per inning.
Nootbaar has the ability to get hot from the plate, as shown by a five-game hitting streak back in mid-May. After recording a hit in his first game back, look for him to get a hit tonight against a pitcher and bullpen that give up a lot of them.
