Tuesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 43-31-1
Seth Lugo has been excellent this season, compiling a 9-1 record, a 1.72 ERA and allowing just 15 earned runs in 78.1 innings. The one area where Lugo isn't excelling significantly is strikeouts. He has struck out 66 batters in his 78.1 innings, and had it not been for two 10+ strikeout performances in a row, his strikeout numbers would be even less impressive.
And yet, four strikeouts is too low of a number tonight. Lugo has struck out at least five batters in six of his last seven games. During that span, he's faced some of the least strikeout-prone teams in the MLB. The Guardians have the fifth-fewest strikeouts and fourth-most runs in the league. Therefore, they could chase Lugo early. However, Lugo has pitched at least 5.1 innings in every start this season and at least 6.0 innings in six of his last seven.
Kyle Harrison has struck out 60 batters in 65.0 innings. He's only pitched more than 6.0 innings once this season, and he's gone 5.0 innings in each of his last four starts. While Harrison has struck out five or more batters in three of his last four games, there are a few reasons to be wary of him tonight.
First, the Diamondbacks are one of the 10-best teams in the league at avoiding strikeouts. Second, Harrison's numbers against the Diamondbacks don't suggest he will have more success against them than he's had against other teams this season. And finally, Harrison gives up a lot of runs. He's allowed at least three earned runs in four consecutive starts. The Diamondbacks have scored the eighth-most runs in the league. Look for Harrison to get chased by the fifth inning tonight.
After two games in May, Aaron Judge's batting average dropped to .197. For the remainder of the month, he hit over .360, as he had one of the best months of his career. He amassed 14 home runs and 12 doubles while recording 10 multi-hit games. Judge started June just as he ended May, with two multi-hit games and a home run.
Tonight, Judge faces Bailey Ober, a pitcher he's never gone up against. However, Ober has allowed 10 home runs and 51 hits in 57.0 innings. Hitting this more than still requires Judge to record at least two hits or an extra-base hit. But with how he's been hitting, there's no reason to doubt him in this matchup.
