Tuesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 65-78
Soler is a power hitter through and through. This season, 47 of his 97 hits have been for extra bases. Therefore, if he has a one-hit night, there is a good chance that one hit will cover this total bases number.
Soler has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, and he gets a juicy matchup against Luke Weaver tonight. Weaver has a WHIP of 1.64, and he has allowed 22 home runs this season. Soler is just 1-6 against Weaver in his career, but that one hit was a homer. There is no reason to think that Weaver will cool off Soler. Even if Soler doesn't hit a home run, he should be able to string together a few hits in this one.
Whether Singer strikes out batters or not depends heavily on what team he is facing. When he faced the Twins two starts ago, he struck out 10 in just 5.0 innings. Yet, when facing the Mets in his last start, Singer went 8.0 innings and struck out just four. The Twins have the highest strikeout rate in baseball, and the Mets have the fourth-lowest.
However, Singer has been pitching deep into games of late, which gives him a serious opportunity to go over this very low number. The Red Sox are 23rd in the league in strikeouts this season, but they're also not a team that will do so much damage to Singer that he will be pulled early. Expect him to go deep into this one and eventually hit four strikeouts.
Carrasco has not had it in his last three starts. He has a combined four strikeouts in those three appearances, and he has allowed 26 hits. In his last start against the Kansas City Royals, Carrasco went 6.0 innings and didn't strike out a single batter.
Even more of a reason to take the under is that Carrasco has had a serious problem staying in games. Carrasco doesn't strike out many batters, no matter how long he pitches. Yet, in his two starts before his 6.0-inning out against the Royals, he went just 2.1 innings in each game. With his low strikeout rate and his inability to remain in games, this is an easy under.
