MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (3/29)

Top 3 MLB Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (6/21)

The Friday, March 29 MLB schedule features 10 games, including a pair of makeups from Thursday rainouts. There are some interesting matchups on the docket, so let's look at three Same Game Parlays (SGPs) we can put together for Friday's games.

Milwaukee Brewers @  New York Mets

The New York Mets host the Milwaukee Brewers in a makeup of Thursday's rained-out contest. Jose Quintana makes the start for New York, but he has struggled in his previous matchups with two of Milwaukee's top hitters.

William Contreras is 3-for-4 in his career with a double and a home run against Quintana. Willy Adames is 4-for-10 with two doubles and a home run versus the veteran. I trust Contreras a bit more to make consistent contact than Adames, which is why I am taking Contreras to record at least two total bases, while I am only relying on Adames just to get a hit.

Speaking of contact, Quintana's swinging strike rate has declined from a career-high 11.9% in 2021 to last year's 8.9% mark. As a result, his strikeout rate went from 28.6% in 2021 to 18.8% last season. Quintana was limited to just 75.2 innings last year, and I expect the Mets to ease him into action early in the season. Between Quintana's eroding strikeout capability and a likely limited workload, I expect him to go under his strikeout prop on Friday. That is the third and final leg of this SGP.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a four-game set. It took 12 innings to decide Game 1, with Pittsburgh coming out on top. I think Friday's game will follow a much different script.

I see a huge edge in Miami’s favor regarding each team's respective starting pitcher. A.J. Puk has had a great spring since being converted back into a starting pitcher. Meanwhile, Martin Perez's role as a starter in the Major Leagues is hanging on by a thread. He was demoted out of the rotation by the Texas Rangers last season and is now getting another shot with the Pirates. I do not believe Perez will fare much better this time around. Give me the Marlins to hold a lead through five innings.

Puk has always been a high-strikeout pitcher, and this spring was no different. He struck out 41.1% of batters in Spring Training. We just saw fellow southpaw Jesus Luzardo punch out eight Bucs on Thursday. I would not be surprised to see Puk approach that total on Friday.

Finally, I am looking for a big game from Tim Anderson on Friday. He is 2-for-6 lifetime against Perez and has historically crushed left-handed pitching. Anderson has a .325 batting average and .497 slugging percentage against lefties in his career. Perez also has pronounced splits, allowing a .288 career average to right-handed hitters.

Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Many project the Colorado Rockies to be among the worst teams in the league this season. They did little to dispel that belief, falling 16-1 to Arizona on Opening Day. While the score may not be quite as lopsided on Friday, I expect the Diamondbacks to secure another easy victory against their division rivals in this matchup.

For the next two legs of my SGP, I’ll choose Ketel Marte to score a run and Lourdes Gurriel to drive in a run. Marte scored three runs in the opener, while Gurriel drove in five. Both players have homered against Rockies starter Cal Quantrill, who is one of the more hittable pitchers in baseball.

For my final leg, I’ll go with Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly to record at least five strikeouts in this game. Kelly dominated the Rockies last season to the tune of 28 strikeouts in just 19 innings. My only concern is this is Kelly's first start of the season, so the pitch count may not be as high as it would be later in the year.
