Tampa Bay Rays at Cleveland Guardians
- Leg 1: Under 0.5 First-Inning Runs (-170)
- Leg 2: Nick Martinez Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-197)
- Leg 3: Jose Ramirez Over 0.5 Walks (+202)
Just one game on the MLB postseason schedule for our same-game parlays. Let's lead off our picks with a scoreless first inning in this ALCS Game 4 matchup. First off, the weather needs to be noted. Rain and wind are expected in Cleveland tonight, which could suppress scoring overall. There also may be a delay or later start, depending on the weather.
As for a scoreless first inning, though, it projects as a good pick tonight. Nick Martinez starts for the Rays, while Shawn Armstrong opens for the Guardians. Martinez posted a 26-5 No Runs First Inning (NRFI) record this season (84%), including a 15-1 mark on the road. The right-hander also owns a career 75% NRFI rate.
Armstrong, meanwhile, has a 12-5 career NRFI record as a starter/opener. The Cleveland righty is pitching well lately, with 5.1 scoreless innings this postseason. He also hasn't allowed a run since returning from the injured list (IL) in September. Plus, Tampa Bay's top three batters (Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda, Junior Caminero) are a combined 0-for-8 against Armstrong.
Back to Martinez for our second pick. He faced the Guardians twice in the regular season and was excellent in both outings. Tampa's starter tossed seven shutout innings in Cleveland back in April, and then six scoreless frames at home in July. He can make it three straight productive starts against this lineup.
Martinez also posted an impressive 2.38 ERA on the road last year. That bodes well for tonight's road outing. Plus, the Rays could have a short leash on the right-hander if he gets into trouble. That limits the potential for allowing earned runs if he gets yanked for a reliever with runners on base.
Let's round out the parlay with Jose Ramirez. Cleveland's star is on fire this postseason, hitting .367 with a 1.124 OPS. He's also 6-for-12 in this series as one of the Guardians' only offensive threats. The Rays would be smart to pitch around him and force others to beat them. So, count on Ramirez drawing a walk. He did in the last game and has a walk in five out of eight postseason games.
Parlay Odds: +500
