MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 103-54
Chris Sale More Than 7.5 Strikeouts (1.78x)
This is a lofty line for most starters, but we all know the Braves lanky lefty is unlike most. With that deceptive release point, Chris Sale has baffled batters for quite some time now, and this year is no different. He ranks in the top 98th percentile in CSW% and 94th in K% among all starters this season after all. Sale has been on a roll lately too, having exceeded this line in six of his last seven starts. He faces the Tampa Bay Rays today, who are third in K% (25.7%) over the past 30 days when facing left-handed pitching.
Freddy Peralta More Than 7.5 Strikeouts (1.92x)
Eight is our lucky number today, and we hope another perennial strikeout monster finds that number today. Peralta has been on a bit of a slide recently, but a date with the Cincinnati Reds could be the antidote he’s looking for. They are fourth in strikeout rate (26.1%) across the past 30 days against righties, and we just saw Tanner Bibee finish with 11 punchouts against them the other day. Peralta has at least seven strikeouts in nine of his 13 outings this season and has a history of striking out these Cincinnati bats. Their roster owns a 36.1% K% and .255 xwOBA in 56 plate appearances against him.
Luis Gil Less Than 4.5 Hits Allowed (1.58x)
Luis Gil has been doing his best Gerritt Cole impression with the Yankees ace on the mend. Since the start of May the Yankees have gone 8-0 in his starts. He has fired 50.1 innings, while striking out 55, and batters own a measly .408 OPS against him over this time. He ranks in the 100th percentile in hits allowed per nine amongst starters, staying under this mark in 10 of his 13 starts. Pitching at Fenway Park won’t be an easy task, but the Yankees rookie is up for the challenge.
