MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 116-68
Let’s get walk-y. Slade Cecconi has been elite in terms of his walk rate this season, ranking in the top 94th percentile amongst all starters. He has stayed under this line in nine of his 11 starts. The most convincing stat I can share in regards to this prop, though, comes down to the Diamondbacks’ leash with him. He was pulled after just 46 pitches last start against the Phillies. He only threw 70, 75, 81, 71 and 80 in his other recent outings as well.
Thanks to their numerous injuries, taking on the Dodgers is a whole lot easier than it was earlier this season. The Giants ace struggled with his control earlier in the year but has looked a lot better more recently, staying under this line in six of his last seven starts. Logan Webb ranks in the 85th percentile in BB%, after being in the 99th percentile last season. He also is known to pitch significantly better at Oracle Park.
Arguably the king of control, let’s sweat this one out with Zach Eflin. He has ranked in the top 99 percentile in BB% in three of the past four seasons. That includes this year where he has stayed under this line in nine of his 14 starts. The Nationals aren’t known to draw many walks either and are 21st in BB% (7.2%) over the past 30 days against righties.
Rounding out the card with another walk prop only feels fitting. Bailey Ober has been a control artist throughout his career, ranking in the top 91st percentile in BB% from 2021-2023. This year he hasn’t been as sharp as in years past, but is still under this in nine of his 15 starts, ranking in the 71st percentile in walk rate amongst all starters. He faced the Mariners back in early May and finished with just one walk across five innings of work.
