Monday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 34-20
We might have lost Spencer Strider this season, but at least we have Jared Jones. The Pirates rookie has been electric out of the gates. He ranks in the 99th percentile in swinging strike rate, in the 95th percentile in K%, in the 97th percentile in xFIP, in the 91st percentile in BB% and in the 96th percentile in CSW% among all pitchers. He has recorded seven or more punchouts in all four of his starts. It’s hard to see him slowing down at any point.
Carlos Rodon has failed to live up to the six-year, $162 million contract he earned from the Yankees last season. He continues to struggle with his control and his 12.2% BB% is in the bottom 14th percentile among all starters this season. He has allowed four, two, two and three walks across his four outings this season. The A’s aren’t considered the most patient team out there, but neither is Miami or Arizona, and Rodon permitted two free passes to each of them. Rodon went over this mark in nine of his 14 starts last season, so trust his shaky command to continue here.
The Tigers young lefty has yet to fully hit his strikeout stride this season, having stayed under this line in three out of four starts, but the indicators are all there for it to come. Tarik Skubal’s CSW% is slightly better than last season, and in 2023, he had an insane 32.9% K%. Once his pitch count was built up, Skubal went over this mark in each of his final eight starts to close out last season. He takes on the Rays today who own the seventh-highest K% (24.8%) against lefties.
