Thursday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 19-16
Quintana has never been a threat to strike out many batters. For his career, he owns a 7.96 K/9, and he has been held under this mark in both starts this season. The Braves have smacked him around well in the past too. They own a .359 xwOBA and 17.3 K% across 156 combined plate appearances against him. Atlanta possesses one of the most fearsome lineups in all of baseball and could chase Quintana early out of the game in this one.

This isn’t the best price to wager on, but one that is worth it given the matchup. Lopez has shut the Tigers down and their roster owns a collective .199 xwOBA and 29.2 K% in 65 plate appearances against him. The Twins ace is among the better arms in the game these days and should be able to stifle this weak lineup once again. Six of the seven right-handed starters to face the Tigers have stayed under this mark as well.
This is a steep line to cross for any starter, but Skubal is unlike most. His stuff is filthy and he generates strikeouts at an elite rate. Last season, he had a 32.9% K% in 80.1 innings pitched. He looked sharp last outing against the A’s with nine punchouts and shouldn’t have any trouble finding plenty in this contest either. The Twins own the second-highest K% (28.2%) on the season after all. It’s a small sample, but the Minnesota roster has combined for a 37.5% K% in 48 plate appearances against Skubal.
