Thursday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks for today’s slate of games.
Sleeper Record: 50-27
There’s intrigue about Edward Cabrera’s strikeout prop taking on the Rockies, but the walks seem more of a sure thing. He owns a career 5.24 BB/9 and has issued at least two free passes in 36/46 (78%) outings. Colorado isn’t known to walk an incredible amount, but if a starter lacks control, it doesn’t matter. They will game plan to take pitches more often than not, especially when he loses a feel for the zone. Five of the last six right-handed starters against them have gone over this line.
The Yankees Southpaw is coming off back-to-back solid outings, but it’s hard to see that coming through against the Orioles. They have the third-best wRC+ (130) and are 14th in K% (22.1%) when facing left-handed pitching. Seven of the 11 left-handed starters to take them on have failed to accrue more than five punchouts. Carlos Rodon has only surpassed this in two of his six starts this year and four out of 14 last season. Until he proves he can perform against a legitimate offense, Rodon is a fade candidate, particularly at this price.
The Red Sox have looked silly against left-handed pitching through the early part of the season, owning the highest K% (29.7%) versus southpaws. Enter lefty Kyle Harrison. The Giants’ former top pitching prospect is coming off his best outing of the season against Pittsburgh where he fired seven strikeouts across six scoreless innings. Admittedly, he’s not known to strike out the most batters, but if Martin Perez and Alex Wood can find seven strikeouts against the Red Sox, so can Harrison. Five of the seven left-handers to face them have recorded seven or more strikeouts against them.
