Tuesday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 37-20
The Marlins continue to get fried against lefties. Max Fried was one of the ones to tame them more recently and allowed just four hits and one earned run across 6.1 innings on April 12. Miami now owns the second-worst wRC+ (54) and third-worst batting average (.201) against lefties this season. Eight of the 11 southpaw starters to face them have stayed under this mark. Fried hasn’t been at his best to start the season, but this matchup should get him right back on track.
Hey everyone, meet the Nationals left-handed throwing Piñata, Patrick Corbin. If it weren’t for his contract, he likely wouldn’t be pitching, but that’s good news for us, as he continues to pour out plenty of hits and runs to opposing offenses. He and the Nationals draw one of the more difficult matchups today, taking on the vaunted Dodgers offense. These teams just met up last week, and Los Angeles pummeled Corbin for nine hits and five runs across his 6.1 innings of work. He has allowed seven, nine, 11 and nine hits in his first four starts this season. There’s no reason to think this trend will stop, so keep the fade train rolling on Corbin.
Somehow, he managed to stay under this line the last time I wrote about him, but Griffin Canning is not a good pitcher. Through four starts, he owns a 5.09 xFIP (14th percentile) and 27.3% CSW% (37th percentile) and has allowed two, six, four and five earned runs. He draws one of the hottest lineups in all of baseball, the Baltimore Orioles, who have the second-best wRC+ (131) against right-handed pitching. Canning is well aware, having faced them on March 30, where he permitted seven hits and five earned runs across five innings of work.
