Friday’s Best MLB Underdog Fantasy Player Predictions

Jake Irvin LOWER 5.0 Strikeouts

Jake Irvin doesn’t have bat-missing stuff. He has a 6.4 SwStr% in two starts this year, markedly lower than the league average (10.8 SwStr%). Irvin also had a 7.0 SwStr% in 2023. So, his low swinging-strike rate this year isn’t a small-sample fluke. Finally, Irvin has struck out over five batters only eight times in 26 starts since last season.

Yordan Alvarez HIGHER 1.5 Total Bases

Yordan Alvarez does his best work on the road. Nevertheless, in 539 plate appearances against righties at home since 2021, he’s ripped 25 doubles, two triples and 31 homers with a .269 batting average, .532 slugging and .263 ISO.

Alvarez also has a favorable matchup. Since last season, Dane Dunning has allowed 359 lefties to hit 12 doubles, two triples and 13 homers with a .264 batting average and .439 slugging. Alvarez has also lit up Dunning in 16 career plate appearances.

Corey Seager HIGHER 1.5 Total Bases

In 51 plate appearances this year, Corey Seager has hit one double and one homer with a .311 batting average, .400 slugging and .089 ISO. Seager’s power has left something to be desired. Nevertheless, he’s a righty killer. In 1,141 plate appearances against righties since 2021, Seager has hit 61 doubles, four triples and 56 homers with a .294 batting average, .534 slugging and .240 ISO.

Shohei Ohtani HIGHER 1.5 Total Bases

Shohei Ohtani has shut out the outside noise. In 69 plate appearances this season, he’s hit eight doubles, one triple and three homers with a .333 batting average, .357 xBA, .635 slugging, .671 xSLG and .302 ISO. Furthermore, Ohtani has had a .279 batting average, .586 slugging and .307 ISO against righties since 2021.
