Friday’s Best NBA Picks

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Milwaukee Bucks (-7) vs. Atlanta Hawks | O/U 243 (-110/-110)

The Bucks would love nothing more than to get off the road because they are struggling. Six of their last seven games have been on the road, and they are 2-5 in that span. The two wins came against the Hornets and Jazz, who are second-to-last in their respective conferences. The Bucks were busy during the trade deadline. They traded Khris Middleton for Kyle Kuzma and MarJon Beauchamp for Kevin Porter Jr.

The defense has been a huge problem. Their 123.5 points allowed per game and 122.9 defensive rating rank 27th in that span. Even Giannis Antetokounmpo’s impressive run hasn’t helped. He has a double-double and at least 30 points in eight of his last 11 games.

The Hawks were also busy trying to breathe life into the season. They made a few moves, including trading their second-best scorer De'Andre Hunter for Caris LeVert, along with sending away George Niang and Bogdan Bogdanović for Terance Mann and Bones Hyland. This comes as they also have been struggling by dropping eight of their last nine games.

These moves will help them with their depth and hopefully improve the defense, which ranks 28th in points allowed per game. With Hunter gone and Jalen Johnson out for the year, who will become the second option to Trae Young?

With both teams infusing new players into the lineup, it will take some time for them to adjust, and we could see lower offensive production as a result.

Pick: Under 243 Points (-110)

San Antonio Spurs (-10.5) vs. Charlotte Hornets | O/U 228.5 (-110/-110)

The first game for the newly formed Spurs, including De'Aaron Fox, was successful, as he scored 24 points in a win against the Hawks. This might be the surge they need because they had been struggling up to this point and are 4-10 in their last 14 games. The addition of Fox finally gives San Antonio a scoring option in the backcourt for a unit that did not have a guard averaging more than 16 points per game. It also gave them another court general alongside Chris Paul, who is playing fewer than 30 minutes per game.

Hopefully, facing the Hornets, who have the fourth-worst winning percentage in the league, will help. They have been riding a six-game losing streak, the third time they have had a streak of six or more losses this season. The defense has been good most of the season. Their 115.3 defensive rating ranks 12th since January 12th, but their offense has been letting them down with a 105.3 rating (29th).

San Antonio’s chemistry looked good in that first game, and they should continue that momentum in this one.

Pick: Spurs -10.5 (-112)
