Tuesday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 22-19
First of all, avoid Trae Young's point total. He averaged just 19.8 points per game against the Heat this season. But if the Hawks have any chance tonight, then he will have to have a big game. So, the question is, do the Hawks have a chance? Maybe, but not a good one.
While the points line is just about perfect, the assists line is too low. Young is averaging 10.2 assists per game and 9.8 per game against the Heat this season. Defense always ramps up in the postseason, but Young has been incredible at passing the ball of late. He has dished out at least 10 assists in five of his last six games.
As we said, defenses improve in the postseason, and the Hawks are already top 10 in the NBA in three-point defense. The oddest thing about this line is that Gabe Vincent has made at least two three-pointers against the Hawks in all three games he has played against them this season. So, you would think this number would be higher.
But Vincent is just 1.7-5.1 on average from deep on the season, and he has made just one three-pointer in his last three games. There was only one stretch this season where Vincent made two or fewer three-pointers in four consecutive games, so the odds are in his favor for the over tonight. But we don't believe he will be focal enough in the offense and, ultimately, fall short of this mark.
This is a good line, offering a lot of value on the Under. Mike Conley scored 15, 14 and 14 in his first three games against the Lakers this season. However, in his fourth game against them, he exploded for 25. He was 7-11 from the field in that game and 7-8 from the free throw line.
Conley has gone for 17 or more four times in his last five games. But he is only averaging 11.9 points per game this season. The Lakers are one of those teams that can really turn up the heat defensively, and we should see a vast improvement as they look to secure a spot in the playoffs. This is an Over that many will add to their PrizePicks slate. But we highly recommend fading the public and taking the Under.
