Tuesday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 75-72
With the season on the line, taking Joel Embiid's over is the best play of Game 5 for either the 76ers or the Knicks. Embiid has scored at least 27 points in all four games in this series. He scored 50 in Game 3 and 34 in Game 2. While this number will still be tough for him to hit, he's simply the 76ers’ best option on every possession.
Additionally, the Knicks may be ok with letting Embiid get his. After all, he's averaging 35.0 points per game, and the Knicks still hold a 3-1 series lead. They can't let him score a ridiculous amount like he did in Game 3, but if he goes over 30, it's not the end of the world. The key will ultimately be Embiid's shooting percentage. He shot only 36.8% in Game 4, but still scored 27 points. In the regular season, he shot 52.9%. If he gets close to his season average, he will score 40 tonight.
Wendell Carter Jr. finally saw some shots fall in Game 4, as he scored 11 points on 66.7% shooting from the field. It was his first game in the series shooting better than 33.3%. He's averaging just 5.5 points per game this series. He's made more than one field goal in just one game. But Game 4 may have been just what Carter needed to get back to his regular-season self.
In the regular season, Carter averaged 11 points per game. He also shot 52.5% from the field. In this series, he's shooting just 35%. And though defenses play better in the postseason, the Cavaliers are not why Carter is struggling. After all, in Game 3, Carter scored just two of the Magic's 121 points. But Carter has shown he can score this season. With this number just 3.5 below his season average, the over is the right play in a matchup that gets more favorable with each game.
When it comes to Tyrese Haliburton, there is no point in guessing what he will excel at on any given night. In Game 4, he scored 24 points but had only four assists and four rebounds. In Game 3, he scored 18 points, recorded 16 assists and took down 10 rebounds.
Haliburton can fill a stat sheet in a variety of ways. Though he's hit this over only once all series, with how depleted the Bucks are, it's best to back him tonight in a clinching scenario. The Pacers have scored over 120 points in their last three games. If they do that again tonight, he may hit this over with just assists and points. If they score less, then he will make up for a lower assist total with more boards. Either way, he's hitting this number.
