Tuesday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 81-65-1
De’Andre Hunter has struggled in this series, shooting just 2-of-9 from deep, while failing to make more than one three-pointer in a single game. While many will be concerned about these recent performances heading into Game 5, his recent struggles present a good opportunity tonight.
Hunter made at least two three-pointers in three of his four first-round games. During the regular season, he averaged 2.5 makes per game, and he knocked down three threes in one of his two regular-season games against the Pacers. While Hunter has been streaky at times this season, he doesn't have a single four-game stretch this season where he failed to make at least two three-pointers.
The NBA's leading scorer has struggled in back-to-back games, as he's failed to top 25 in either. He's just 15-of-41 from the field during that stretch, and he's made only one of his 11 attempts from three-point range. And yet, it's not time to abandon hope for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander yet.
This is a player who dropped at least 33 points in the first two games of this series. He had a series-high 34 in Game 2, despite only playing 30 minutes. Gilgeous-Alexander struggled on the road, but he's back at home tonight. During the regular season, he averaged 33.5 points per game when playing in Oklahoma City.
PrizePicks dropped this number to 31.5 after keeping it at 32.5 throughout the first part of this series. While I understand why the number is lower, I think it's a mistake to drop it when he's returning home.
Against the league's third-best scoring defense, Nikola Jokic has struggled. He scored 42 points in Game 1 and 27 in Game 4, but for the most part, he's been well below his statistical averages, especially when it comes to finding his teammates.
Jokic has yet to record more than six assists in a game this series. In Game 4, he recorded a new series-low with just three. But Jokic finished the regular season ranked second in the league in assists per game, averaging 10.2 per contest. In two of his four regular-season games against the Thunder, he dished out at least 13 assists, so he's already proven he can hit this number.
It seems PrizePicks had no choice but to react to what Jokic did in the first four games of this series. But this number is set way lower than it should be.
