Friday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
PrizePicks record: 58-45-1
Trae Young is out for the Atlanta Hawks once again. Without him around, Dejounte Murray will take over the facilitating role, one that he is familiar with in his time spent in San Antonio. He was a triple-double machine with the Spurs, and in his final season with them in 2021-2022, he averaged 8.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game. There’s a decent chance he flirts with a triple-double tonight, taking on the Kings, who have allowed the eighth-most assists and third-most rebounds per game to opposing point guards. In 10 games as a Hawk without Young, Murray averages 8.8 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game. He has 13+ combined rebounds + assists in seven of those 10 games.
Taking on the Charlotte Hornets is a gift for Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves. Charlotte is 28th in defensive net rating on the season and has no answer to slowing down “Ant” whatsoever. He is coming off a poor scoring night against OKC, putting up just 19 points. But before that, he had exceeded this mark in 14 of his previous 18 games, averaging 28.8 points per game. Look for him to get back on track in this one.
Donovan “Spida” Mitchell has been balling out without Darius Garland and Evan Mobley around, but this line is still a few ticks too high with the matchup on hand. For starters, these teams play at a below-average tempo, ranking 19th and 22nd in Pace. That sort of gameplay will inevitably create fewer scoring and stat-padding opportunities for Mitchell.
However, the primary case for this under comes back to Orlando’s shutdown defense. They are fifth in defensive net rating on the season. In addition, this just isn’t really a number Mitchell will go over without Garland. He’s under this line in nine of 15 games without him this season, averaging 41.1 PRA per game.
