Tuesday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
This Season: 56-47
Trae Young has struggled to find his shot in March, averaging just 1.4 made three-pointers per game, while shooting just 39.1% from the floor. Both of those numbers are below his season averages. Though Young has made one or fewer three-pointers in six of his last 10 games, he has made at least two in three of his last four, and he seems to be turning a corner after last night's 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc against the Brooklyn Nets.
Tonight, Young faces the Hornets, a team that ranks in the middle of the league in three-pointers allowed per game. This should be a good matchup for a player averaging 2.7 made three-pointers per game this season. However, he went 0-of-5 against the Hornets last Wednesday. Yet, while he's made two or fewer threes in two of his three games against the Hornets this season, he's started to shoot better from deep. I think that will carry over into this game. After all, he made five threes in the first meeting between these two this season.
Derrick White is averaging exactly 3.5 made threes per game this season, but the Nets have not been a good matchup for him this year. He's faced them twice. In one game, he went 3-of-9 from deep, though he only played 22 minutes. While that performance may instill confidence entering today's game, his other performance against the Nets saw him shoot just 1-of-6 from deep while playing 43 minutes.
White enters today's game having made three or fewer three-pointers in four of his last five games. The Nets rank eighth in the NBA in three-pointers allowed per game. When you consider that stat and White's recent performances, there's no reason to back him to clear his season average tonight.
When the Hawks and Hornets met last week, Mark Williams scored 14 points in 26 minutes. That was the only time Williams has faced the Hawks this season, so we have a small sample size entering tonight, yet I remain confident he will for less than his posted points player prediction number tonight. In last Wednesday's game, Williams went 6-of-9 from the floor, which put his field goal percentage higher than his season average. Still, he for less than this total.
Williams is averaging 15.7 points per game, and though the Hawks are allowing the sixth-most points per game in the paint, where Williams does almost all of his damage, he's still not enough of a pure scorer to warrant this number being higher than his average. Williams has 14 or fewer points in four of his last six games. If you extend the sample size, he has 14 or fewer points in eight of his last 12. Take his less than, even if he ends up around his season average.
