It might seem odd to target a role player, but the spot shapes out well for Rui Hachimura. He’s returning to Washington for the first time after playing his first three and a half seasons there. It’s a pace-up spot between two teams that rank in the top four in tempo, too, and with a 234 total, there ought to be plenty of scoring in this one.
Since joining the starting five a couple of months ago, Hachimura has routinely been around this number. He has 14+ points in 17 of his last 23 contests, averaging 17 points per game over this span. Washington has the worst adjusted defensive rating in the league, so Hachimura shouldn’t have any trouble getting over this mark once again.
The Pistons’ young point guard has been feeling it lately, scoring 32, 33 and 36 over his last three games. Taking on the Atlanta Hawks is a welcomed sight for him, too, as they have allowed the fifth-most points to opposing PGs over the last 30 days. We have seen the likes of Devin Booker (30), Anfernee Simons (36), Dalano Banton (31) and D’Angelo Russell (27) all put up big scoring nights when taking on the Hawks over this span. Cunningham has done his fair share of scoring against them in the past, too, putting up 26, 35, nine and 43 points.
As he builds his Sixth-Man-of-the-Year case, look for Naz Reid to keep the scoring up in a phenomenal matchup. The Raptors have the second-worst defensive net rating since the start of 2024 and don’t have the size inside to slow anyone down with all the injuries they’ve sustained. Now fully entrenched into the starting five with Karl Anthony-Town’s injury, Reid has been played closer to 30 minutes more recently. Over the past month when he has played 25+ minutes, he’s averaging 19.8 points per game and has 18+ points in 10 of his last 13 contests. He should be able to get over this mark before the blowout gets really out of hand.
