Brandon Ingram is coming off a poor performance against the Knicks, where he shot just 7-22 (32%) from the field. Despite his short-coming last game, he’s worth wagering on with the matchup on hand. The Orlando Magic have allowed the 2nd most points to small forwards this year.
Prior to the dud on Saturday, Ingram had scored 25+ points in seven consecutive outings and averaged 30.1 points per game over this span. Expect a bounce back out of BI on Monday.
Signed to a 4-year 104 million dollar contract this off-season, Jalen Brunson has lived up to the hype for the Knicks so far. He is the 3rd highest favorite (+275), behind Lauri Markannen and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, to win Most Improved Player and has been an integral part of the Knicks offense.
This line simply feels too low for the Knick’s primary facilitator. Brunson is averaging 6.2 assists per game and has recorded at least 5 assists in 42/58 (72%) games this season. The Celtics are one of the best defensive units in the association with the 4th best Defensive Net Rating; however, Brunson has dished it out with seven and 10 assists in his two games against them this year.
Boston has had trouble preventing assists from flowing as of late as well. Each team’s main passing option has eclipsed this mark with ease over the last nine games:
- James Harden – 8
- Tyrese Haliburton – 14
- Killian Hayes – 9
- Jrue Holiday – 7
- Ja Morant – 7
- LaMelo Ball – 10
- James Harden – 11
- Killian Hayes – 9
- Chris Paul – 8
All told, that adds up to an average of over nine assists per game for these playmakers. At worst, Brunson will push at five assists.
Following Mason Plumlee’s departure, Mark Williams has taken the starting Center role over in Charlotte. The 2022 15th overall pick out of Duke has performed admirably in his first six starts and has cleared this line in 4/6, averaging 21.4 points+rebounds per game. The two misses were due to foul trouble and playing time in which he played just 21 and 17 minutes.
Williams just had arguably the best game of his young career against the Heat on Saturday. Miami has allowed the 2nd fewest points and fewest rebounds to Centers this season, but Williams ignored all of that noise. He had 18 points and 20 rebounds squaring off against Bam Adebayo, one of the premier defenders in the game.
The rookie will get a much easier test facing Detriot, who has permitted the 2nd most points in the paint. They are also 27th in Defensive Net Rating and have allowed the 8th most points and 2nd most rebounds to Centers on the year. Both teams rate high in terms of Pace, Detroit is 12th, and Charlotte is 4th, and with a 237 total, there should be plenty of stat filling to go around.
Lastly, the Pistons will be without multiple big men tomorrow. Jalen Duran and Nerlens Noel have been ruled out, and Isiah Stewart is questionable to play. With all things considered, Mark Williams should manage to clear this low threshold.
