Best Monday Night Football PrizePicks Player Predictions
A lot of attention will be focused on Justin Fields' rushing ability in tonight's game, but Josh Dobbs is no slouch when he elects to scramble. He's run for 389 yards and six touchdowns this season. Dobbs has seven games with 40 or more rushing yards and is averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
The Bears enter Monday night with the best rush defense in football. However, their pass defense is ranked just 25th in the league. Dobbs will drop back a lot on Monday night and though he should find success throwing the ball, he's also going to have plenty of success scrambling, as the Bears have the worst sack rate in the NFL.
Justin Jefferson is unlikely to play tonight, once again. That means that TJ Hockenson and Jordan Addison are in line for big games against one of the worst pass defenses in football. Addison has gone over 50 yards in all but three games this season. One of those performances was last week and another was in the Vikings 19-13 win over the Bears earlier this season.
However, Addison's 28-yard performance against the Bears is not indicative of what will happen tonight. Kirk Cousins was simply off in that game, completing only 21 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown. Fields was injured in that game and the Bears' defense stepped up in a big way to keep the game close. Tonight's matchup should have more of a shootout feel to it with Fields back in the lineup, even if both teams struggle to finish drives and score points. Look for Addison to do what he's done all season and go for 50 or more.
Despite racking up 341 rushing yards in seven games, Justin Fields has scored only one rushing touchdown this season. He's also only passed for 12, throwing one or fewer touchdown passes in five of his seven contests.
Last week, Fields was clearly more comfortable running than throwing against Detroit's mediocre secondary. However, with one extra week of recovery from his injury, we expect him to throw with more confidence this week. Yet, that won't necessarily result in scoring success. The Vikings have given up only six touchdowns in the last four weeks, four of which came through the air.
Fields' passing success came earlier in the year against a Denver Broncos defense that was still trying to find out who they were, and a Washington Commanders defense that has let just about everyone light them up. Tonight, he’s going to account for just one touchdown.
