I hate this matchup for Hunt. He just ran for 64 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills, but he's about to face one of the best rush defenses in football. The Eagles allowed just 104.2 rushing yards per game in the regular season, and they gave up only 4.3 yards per carry. In the NFC Conference Championship game, they held the Washington Commanders to 99 rushing yards, and no running back went for more than 36 yards.
Hunt ran for just 44 yards against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round, and he's only topped 45 yards in two of his last seven games. Additionally, he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry this season. While he's averaging 4.3 per game in the postseason, that stat is inflated by him rushing for 5.5 yards per carry against the Texans. Against the Bills, he only averaged 3.8.
If you've already used the freebie PrizePicks is offering, you may want to add Patrick Mahomes to another predictions set. While it's exciting to root for a high-scoring Super Bowl, I don't think that's going to be the case this year. And even if it is, I'm not sure Mahomes can hit this number.
In the thrilling 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills, Mahomes threw for 245 yards. That performance came one week after throwing for just 177 yards against the Texans. Mahomes has thrown for fewer than 250 yards in four of his last six games and will face one of the best pass defenses in football.
The Eagles finished the regular season allowing just 174.2 passing yards per game. What's even more impressive about this feat is that they ended the season 14-3. That means teams were often playing from behind against them, and yet, the Eagles still never faltered. This secondary is playing incredible football. Even if Mahomes has enough magic to lead his team to a win, he won't top a number he hasn't hit since Christmas.
I'm finishing off the best Chiefs PrizePicks predictions with a third less than play. Why? Because the Eagles' defense is simply fantastic against tight ends. This season, they allowed just 591 yards to tight ends - the fewest yards allowed to the position by any team in the NFL.
In the postseason, the Eagles have had a little more trouble against tight ends. Last week, Zach Ertz went for over 100 yards. In the Divisional Round, Tyler Higbee caught seven passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. However, I don't think the Eagles game planned for either of those players the way they're going to game plan for Kelce.
Kelce is the Chiefs' leading receiver, so he will be the Eagles’ primary focus. And the Eagles have proven all season they can shut down tight ends if that is their intention. While Kelce finished the year as the Chiefs' leading receiver, he only had seven games with 64+ yards. And while he crushed it against the Texans in the Divisional Round, he only managed two catches for 19 yards against the Bills.
