NFL Week 7 Pick’em Pool Predictions
Houston Texans vs. Green Bay Packers
The Packers have won four of their last five games, and they looked dominant in last week's 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Yet, it is a bit surprising to see them favored in this game. They've yet to defeat a team with a winning record this season, and the Texans have rattled off three consecutive wins.
The Packers are allowing 228.7 passing yards per game this season, which means C.J. Stroud is going to have a huge advantage when he drops back to pass. He'll be without Nico Collins again, but he is surrounded by offensive weapons and leads the best offensive unit the Packers have faced this season.
The Texans' defense has very quietly been a solid unit this season. They rank fourth in the league in pass defense and they're only allowing 113.8 rushing yards per game. The Packers are the home team, but everything else points to the Texans winning this game.
Pick: Texans
Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings
Even with Aidan Hutchinson out for the Lions, this is the game of the week. The Vikings are undefeated and coming off their bye with a chance to take a two-game lead on the entire NFC North. They opened as 1.5-point favorites. The spread has grown to 2.5, which shows the public really likes the Vikings in this game.
What this contest is going to come down to is run defense. The Vikings rank second in the league and the Lions rank third. Both teams are allowing fewer than 84 yards per game on the ground. So which team is more likely to run with success?
You have to go with the Lions. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have combined for 699 yards this season, while we're unsure if Aaron Jones is even going to play in this game. If Jones does play, he'll have some success, but the Lions' rushing attack looks unstoppable right now. Mix the Lions' offense with their run defense and the health of their secondary, and you have a recipe for the Lions winning a tight contest.
Pick: Lions
Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers
This Super Bowl rematch is a little less exciting with key injuries to players like Christian McCaffrey, Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco impacting the quality of the teams stepping on the field.
Despite their 3-3 record, the 49ers are favored in this game. That doesn't seem right, even if they are the home team. They just beat up on a Seattle Seahawks team that’s not nearly as good as their 3-0 start suggests. Now, they have to take on one of the best defenses in football. The only comparable game so far this season was their 23-17 loss to the Vikings.
The Chiefs have been far from dominant, but they always seem to find a way to win. The offense is still managing 23.6 points per game. Considering the 49ers have allowed at least 23 points in four of their last five, it's safe to expect the Chiefs to hit that average on Sunday. If they do, the 49ers won't score enough to win this game.
Pick: Kansas City Chiefs
New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
If Greg Zuerlein had made two basic field goals, the Jets would be entering this week as the leaders of the AFC East. Instead, they're 2-4 and heading on the road for a primetime meeting with the 4-2 Pittsburgh Steelers.
But there is plenty to be excited about in New York. They just acquired Davante Adams and now have one of the most dangerous receiving corps in the NFL. Breece Hall finally broke out of his funk last week, running for 113 yards. This offense is dangerous. Despite the Steelers’ 32-13 win last week, their defense has been far from dominant over the last few weeks.
It looks like Russell Wilson could start this week's game. Whether it's him or Justin Fields under center, the fact remains this offense will struggle to move the ball against the Jets' defense. In a low-scoring contest, take the team with the better offense, especially when that team may happen to have the better defense as well.
Pick: Jets
