Sunday's NHL Best Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Philadelphia Flyers (+184) at Colorado Avalanche (-225) | O/U 5.5 (-132/+108)

The Avalanche are adjusting to their new lineup and were inconsistent in January. They entered the month with a six-game winning streak but have since gone 6-6-2, including zero back-to-back wins. Martin Necas, who was the centerpiece acquisition in their recent trade, has contributed since coming over from Carolina. In four games, he has five points (one goal, four assists), but he also has a -3 plus/minus rating.

It's been a brutal stretch for the Flyers, and their offense has been almost nonexistent. They are 1-4-0 in their last five games, have scored six goals and have been shut out twice during that span. Goaltending has been an even bigger problem, as they rank 28th in goals allowed (3.36) and have a dreadful -22.1 goals saved above expectations.

While the Avs should get the win, it’s tough to trust them getting it on the puck line. There should be a lot of scoring in this matchup and this game could hit the over.

Pick: Over 5.5 Goals (-132)

Seattle Kraken (-152) at Calgary Flames (+126) | O/U 5.5 (-122/+100)

The Kraken have been a huge disappointment this season. They haven’t been consistent and are amid a bad stretch (8-13-1). They are eight points behind in the race for the last Wild Card spot, and it will be tough with a few teams they need to overcome.

It's another year in which their lack of offense has hurt them. Last season, they were 29th in goals per game, they have improved, but they're still only 15th. The defense was their strongest aspect the previous year when they were ninth in goals. If they could keep that level of efficiency with the improved offense, they could have been a contender. However, the defense has regressed and ranks 23rd in goals allowed.

The Flames are holding down that last Wild Card spot and starting to play better all around. The offense still has some holes, which they could address during the trade deadline, but the defense has been much better during their 7-4-0 run, averaging 2.45 goals allowed per game. Credit goes to goalie Dustin Wolf, who's having a breakout season. He ranks eighth in goals saved above expected.

Calgary being this large of an underdog is surprising. Even with them on a back-to-back, you have to like the Flames, who have played well as of late against an inconsistent Kraken team.

Pick: Flames (+126)
