The Bolts square off against the Isles this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ET, where Tampa's looking to snap a three-game slide. They will need their best player, Nikita Kucherov (36G, 59A), to step up and help them get back in the win column. Kucherov has registered at least 4.0 SOG in three of his last five games, exceeding 4.0 SOG on two occasions (6.0, 6.0). The Islanders are currently 29th in the NHL in 5-on-5 shots on goal allowed (1,443), so look for “Kuch” to pepper them in this matinee matchup.
I feel like there's a narrative out there that Philadelphia is untouchable regarding their defense. Sure, they're playing well this season, but they're just 11th overall, conceding 2.72 goals per contest. They're allowing 3.5 goals per game over their last four games. That said, I think a stout Rangers team that is 9-0-0 in its last nine games should find success offensively in this matchup. That includes their best defensive scorer, Adam Fox (9G, 37A). He's at nearly a point-per-game rate, racking up 46 points through 47 games. As for his recent form, the D-man has recorded at least one point in 10 of his last 15 games. I expect Fox to make his way onto the scoresheet tonight.
Finally, let's head up to the Great White North, where the Knights square off against the Senators in Canada's capital city. Shea Theodore just returned from injury, and he's already lighting it up for Vegas' blue line. The 28-year-old has three points (3A) in two games since returning from injury. Like Fox, he's also nearly a point-per-game player, adding 21 points (4G, 17A) through 22 games played. Theodore is back on the top power-play unit, and they should feast against this lowly Ottawa defense. The Sens are 30th in overall defense (3.39 GAA) and 28th on the penalty kill (74.85%).
